The wisdom traditions tell us that we forgive – not for others – but for ourselves.
Another way to look at it is to see that holding onto bitterness and resentment only hurts us – it does nothing to anyone else. Think of it this way – holding onto to your hurt and anger is like holding a hot coal and expecting the other person to get burned.
But forgiveness can be difficult. How can we let go of our hurt, our anger, our fear?
Let us begin to live in the present moment, and release the hurts from the past.
