April 2021 – A Letter to our Community
A letter to our Community
April 15, 2021
As you may know, the 3rd wave of covid-19 has reached a critical state in our community with new variants of concern posing a significant threat to our health care system. Our hospitals are over-crowded and our surge plans are now in effect. Unfortunately, we are expecting the situation to worsen still.
As patients of Medical Associates of Port Perry and the North Durham Family Health Team you are cared for by a large team of highly skilled doctors, nurses, allied health care workers, and health care staff who have played a major role in the pandemic response. A number of these team members are now being actively deployed to hospitals in Ontario to assist with the rising numbers of hospitalized patients. During this time your access to non-urgent primary care may be affected.
To help us deliver care to those who are hospitalized and in the greatest need, and at the same time continue to provide primary care where it is needed most, we ask the following of you:
Through the end of May:
• Please understand that primary care services may be limited during this time
We understand how disheartening this is. We have done everything we can in the last year to help keep our community safe. Our community is fortunate to have a large practice of physicians with broad skills which support our local hospital. Those skills are now needed to support this unprecedented demand on our health care system across the province.
The best way you can help us is by continuing to stay home and stay safe. We know it has been a hard year on everyone but now is the time for all of us to step up as we battle to treat those in hospital and implement mass vaccination to help beat what we hope is the final wave of covid-19.
Rest assured we will continue to support our local hospital to ensure the urgent needs of our community are met.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation during these trying times.
Together, we will get through this.
